CULLEN BULLEN ATTAINS 3 STAR SAFETY STATUS!
Members of the Portland District Motor Sports Club Inc have established an amazing legacy for the next generation after completing a barrage of improvements to Cullen Bullen Raceway to achieve a Speedway Australia 3 star safety rating.
Located 165 km west of Sydney, and just 90 minutes from Eastern Creek Speedway, Cullen Bullen Raceway is the action attraction of the central west of NSW, and the latest improvements are set to boost the profile of the venue to the national stage.
Originally launched in April 1991 as a 385 metre Armco fenced track, the venue first opened thanks to a lot of hard work from the existing club members, and is now steered by President Ray and partner Sue Healey, with Ray being involved for 25 years and president since 2016 and Sue a member since 1991, racing as a teenager then becoming the club Secretary in 2013 to present.
With the help of government funding and a commitment from club members attending numerous working bees, the team at Cullen Bullen Raceway has done a superb job to upgrade their venue and to a 3 star safety rating with improvements such as:
• A concrete wall and safety catch fence that now surrounds the entire perimeter of the race track, with the catch fence now covered with a debris netting to help with the spectator viewing experience,
• sturdy new crowd control fence in all spectator areas,
• new LED track lights,
• new LED traffic lights with the ability to now run some classes in either direction
• new steward and flag marshal box.
“This is all about keeping the doors open and letting the next generation of speedway racers enjoy another 32 years like we all have. We have more improvements in the pipeline and we’re determined to be established as one of the premier tracks west of Sydney,” Ray said, clearly proud of the team and their determination.
“There’s a lot of people and businesses that have helped us to get to this point and we’re really looking forward to more classes coming through the pit gates and fans coming through the front gates and enjoying the sport that we all love.”
Speedway Australia applauds the efforts of the entire team at Cullen Bullen Raceway with what they have achieved in such a short time, establishing an amazing legacy from the current club members for the next generation to live their Speedway dream!
