GYMPIE’S ‘SUPER’ UPGRADES
Mothar Mountain Speedway looks to celebrate almost 60 years of continuous operation through securing one of Australia’s most prestigious National Title events. Gympie will play host to the National Super Sedan title in April 2022, with the club beginning a series of capital works and safety upgrades ahead of the landmark event.
One of the few speedway’s in Australia to feature both left and right hand bends, together with an undulating rise on the start/finish straight, Mothar Mountain’s 360m kidney shaped track has provided a unique challenge, and has been a favourite for competitors since its construction in the early 1960’s – often featuring on many drivers ‘bucket-list’ of places to race.
Located 160km north of Brisbane in the Wide Bay-Burnett district town of Gympie, the venue has proven itself as a mainstay for Queenslands Speedway Sedan competitors, with a 10-event calendar featuring everything from Juniors, Street Stocks and Production Sedans right through to the fan-favourite Modified and Super Sedans, amongst a host of other local classes.
Recent construction work has resulted in a brand-new catch fence and wire ropes, together with a height extention to the primary concrete barrier, highlighting a raft of improvements competitors and pundits will see ahead of the upcoming season. A number of further working bees are planned, with more upgrades in the works to ensure the venue continues to impress local, and travelling Speedway participants.
More info about the venue, including upcoming dates can be found via their website and Facebook page.
We wish Mothar Mountain Speedway all the best ahead of their much anticipated 2020/21 season, which kicks off with the QLD Modlite Title, next Saturday October 3.
