NO SMALL TASK

A new Sport Development Officer gets the green flag for Western Australia.
Proud West Aussie Allan Smallwood joins the Speedway Australia team bringing a wealth of passion and knowledge into the role.
Allan, 37 was born and raised in the southern suburbs of Perth and didn’t really get a choice when it came to speedway.
“I was only a few weeks old when I attended my first race meeting.” he laughed “Dad was on track, mum was in the canteen, I was in the bassinette on the floor next to her.” “I have spent my whole life seeing cars go sideways on dirt, and I still get a thrill out of it every time I go to a race. This really is the best sport in the world!”
Proudly calling Perth home, Allan boasts years of experience and knowledge for the sport of speedway having long time involvement in varying roles.
“I never had an interest in racing myself. Dad was the racer; I was just a fanatic. Most kids had their matchbox cars laid out on the floor and pretended to race them. I laid them out and commentated a re-enactment of what I had seen the Saturday night before.”
Speedway Australia General Manager Darren Tindal described Allan’s appointment as ‘a huge win for the sport’.
“Western Australia is such an important piece of the Australian Speedway landscape. The state of WA is just so vast. There is a great amount of venue’s, clubs and competitors that all share the same passion for their state and the sport of Speedway racing. We needed someone who understand the way the state operates and the people who operate within it. Allan’s passion for every aspect of this industry and his knowledge of the state is the perfect fit for the role and one that slots straight into our organisation.”
Keep an eye on Speedway Australia social media platforms as we sit down with “Smally” for a chat in the coming weeks.
